WE ALL GET DRESSED FOR BILL !!!

PHOTOGRAPHER- PERFECTIONIST-LONER-NEW YORKER-MAVERICK- GENTLEMAN- LEGEND- PHENOMENON- VISIONARY

For sure you know Scott Schuman or Tommy Ton or...some others street style heroes but do you know something about Bill Cunningham? If not, you should be ashamed (!) and run now to the cinema !

Finally, a full-length documentary about street style pioneer, 81 year old New York Times photographer, Harvard graduate,  hat salesman and such an amazing man in one- ladies and gentleman ....Bill Cunningham is about to be released, and here is its first official trailer!(just below).
Director Richard Press has been wanting to do this film since 2000, though he only got Cunningham to agree to start shooting during New York Fashion Week in 2008. Until then, the photographer had been very hesitant about shooting a documentary about him, claiming that “there’s no subject here.” :)
The trailer starts with Vogue US fashion editor Anna Wintour saying that “we all get dressed for Bill”, before explaining that having Bill noticing you without wanting to take a photo of you is a terrifying thing for a fashion editor like herself.
The film premieres at New York City’s Film Forum on March 16.( my birthday, could not be better). And The Oscar goes to...BILL- just kidding but Mr.Cunningham received from me a lifetime achievement award :)

The best quotes from this film:
"The point is that fashion is the arm to survive in everyday life"
“we all get dressed for Bill”
"one snap, two snaps or he ignores you which is death"  -     ANNA WINTOUR
"The fashion show is definetely on the street, always has been and always will "

Abbey Lee - Sasha - Lily - Edita for Rag & Bone SS11

Instead of hiring a professional photographer to shoot their ad campaign, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville handed Abbey Lee Kershaw, Edita Vilkeviciute, Sasha Pivovarova, and Lily Aldridge a digital camera and asked them to take pictures of themselves in Rag & Bone clothes.
“We have always been very inspired by the girls who do the show,” said Wainwright. “Rather than do what every other brand does and have a high-end photographer take very polished shots, we thought, ‘Let’s flip it on its head to get the girls to take over.’ We wanted it to be very real.” Frankly speaking people
want to see models more without retouching and from backstage. I'm in!

GUY BOURDIN = EDGY

< Don' t make me laugh this is art! > he said when one of the model accused him of promoting pornography.

Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was an obsessed man. And that is to put it slightly. Working for Vogue, he made his heavily made-up models twist to uncomfortable positions in surreal, absurd, gloomy images. He loved red-haired women - who reminded him of his long-lost mother. His estranged wife committed suicide by hanging herself.(http://www.phinnweb.org/livingroom/ILikeToWatch/guybourdin/)

Madonna was inspired by him too, someone even said that she copied his style for her HOLLYWOOD video

and I see some similarities in this  Stella McCartney's fashion spot.

Todo o Nada - Everything or nothing by Mario Testino

For the first time in Spain, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is presenting the work of the Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. If you're in Madrid please go see it !!! because these photos are to die for!

Mario Testino was born in Lima. After completing his studies in Peru, he arrived in London in 1976 to pursue a career in photography. Testino is now one of the world's most celebrated photographers. His work has been featured across the globe in magazines from VOGUE to VANITY FAIR and he has crefted and contributed to the campaigns of many leading fashion houses from Burberry and Gucci to Dolce & Gabbana to Versacce

This exhibition brings together fifty-four photographs by Mario Testino which reveal 2 opposing directions in his work: fashion and the nude. These subjects are to be discovered both in his well- known published oeuvre as a fashion photographer as well as in his personal work, and the show includes a number of photographs specially taken for this exhibition and seen here for the firs time.

For Mario Testino, the heart of Todo o Nada lies in contemplating process and implications involved in the act of removing one's clothes and becoming naked. As he says, "The pictures start fully clothed and end naked. But where does fashion photography end and portraiture begin?"

The exhibition also reveals many dimensions of the relationship between the photographer and his model. From the glamour of the most famously beautiful women in the world, nude,or, wearing haute couture often photographed with a touch of irony and provocative sense of humour),  to more intimate and spontaneaous moments.
He has defined and redefined his way of seeing a woman over the course of his career. She is a woman who moves between opposite poles:" I like strong, independent women. Woman who, despite their strenght, never lose their personality who can reflect their own desire and ours".
